"Moody Hues"

85" x 85". Batting: Hobbs 100% Wool.
I was inspired by a photograph of a c. 1870 quilt with interlocking stars.
The "Broderie Perse" technique is also documented in that time period.
"Moody Hues" combines these ideas in a "diamond in a square" medallion style quilt.
The use of a plaid background fabric enhances the glowing quality behind the stars.
I specifically cut squares from the lightest part of the plaid for the background of the 4 corners.
The diamond appears by cutting triangles from the darkest part of the same plaid.
The center and borders utilize the whole piece as background.
Double line quilting, cross hatch & feather wreath designs were chosen because they were
popular patterns for the c. 1870 time period.
